Exploring Sound With the Unique Melody MEST MKII

The video is in Arabic.

Hey everyone,

For about a year I’d been thinking about the Unique Melody MEST MKII: there was a lot of talk about it, and people compared it with the best IEMs out there. Thanks to my brother Ali, who owns it, for his big support of the channel. Eight drivers per side with a 5-way crossover (very rare): a dynamic for the bass, two balanced armatures for the mids, two for the treble, two EST for the upper treble, and a Bone Conduction driver for the full range. 12.3 ohm and 112 dB sensitivity according to the company, and a 4.4 balanced cable. It was $1800 at the time of the review.

Who is it for?

• Anyone whose favorite signature is a balanced U-shape, who loves very high detail, and has more than one source and a high quality library.

Strengths

• The best sub-bass response I’ve heard: the bass is split between the dynamic and the Bone Conduction driver, the rumble is special, and I reached 13 Hz.
• Layering, imaging and separation are 11 out of 10.
• The depth goes deeper than 95% of the IEMs I’ve tried.
• Small details are 11 out of 10: you hear the faintest sounds while staying relaxed.
• The mids are natural with a touch of warmth and no bass bleed, and the treble is balanced with ideal air.
• Light and comfortable, and the cable (from PW Audio) doesn’t need replacing.

Weaknesses

• The price is very high: wait for sales.
• It changes a lot with the source and tips, especially the treble.
• Vocals (especially female) are pushed back a bit, which won’t suit fans of forward vocals.
• It doesn’t forgive weak recordings, and the nozzle is a bit wide.
• To feel the Bone Conduction, the IEM needs to sit deeper.

Verdict

One of the best options on the market if all the conditions fit you. But at $1800 I’d think a thousand times, because the 64 Audio U12t is very close to it in price. It sounded best for me with the iBasso DC04 Pro and Spiral Dot++ tips.

Note: this review is from 2023, so the price may have changed.
