Hey everyone,

The KZ AZ09 is a Bluetooth adapter (DAC and amp) for IEMs, Bluetooth 5.2, and it was $22 at the time of the review. It comes with a fixed, covered 2-pin connector (0.75 or 0.78), and the 800 mAh charging case charges it 8 to 10 times, with about 6 hours per charge according to the company.

Who is it for?

  • iPhone users who want to turn their wired IEM into Bluetooth cheaply and don’t pick apart details.

Strengths

  • The connection is very strong: it reached about 15 meters with no obstacles, and I didn’t notice any audio delay.
  • Really light (4 grams per piece), and so small no one notices it.
  • The connector is rock solid and won’t come off.
  • The charging case has room for the IEM, so you don’t need to detach it to charge.

Weaknesses

  • It only uses the AAC codec, the quality dropped clearly, and micro detail became hard to hear.
  • The covered connector only fits a limited number of IEMs (of mine, it only fit the KZ ZSX).
  • I didn’t notice the noise cancelling the company talks about, and there’s only one mic per side.
  • There’s audible hiss, the power is weak, and you can’t control volume from the buttons.
  • There’s no app, and the company didn’t say what the power output or Bluetooth chip is.

Verdict

At its price I’ll forgive the shortcomings, but its effect on the sound was clear for me on Android. iPhone users might have a better experience.

Note: this review is from 2021, so price and availability may have changed.
