Very important notes:

1. These headphones are very, very sensitive to the source.. the better the source you plug them into, the better they perform.
2. Very sensitive to cables, which affect their performance a lot.
3. They need a lot of power.. please don’t plug them into a dongle and then say they didn’t give you the performance you expected, the bass will just disappear.
4. They need at least 100 hours of Burn-in to give you their full performance.

Let’s start with the sound performance:

Sound signature:
Neutral leaning warm and relaxed, free of coloration and good for long listening sessions

Bass – the low frequencies:
– Leans neutral.. more than elevated
– Sub-Bass below 80Hz: its response is on the low side and not prominent at all, there’s a roll off, and the detail is somewhat weak.. and there’s almost no air in it, but you can fix it somewhat: use pure copper or OFHC cables and they’ll help a lot in bringing it back to life, and stay away from any all-silver cable “I mean a headphone cable” because it’ll make things worse. Your gear will help too, and I used the Ares 15th DAC, which gives one of the best bass responses of all the gear I’ve tried.

– Mid-Bass is prominent and clear and gives a really nice punch with medium weight, the attack is excellent and leans a little fast, which is a plus. The headphones clearly focus on it, and the control is excellent.

– The bass quantity, like I said, leans neutral, so it’s not aimed at Bass lovers or Bass Heads
Overall the Bass is excellent and has a unique tone, and what I mean is the way it spreads across the soundstage, it’s stunning, like it wraps around the rest of the sounds. You won’t get this response from any other headphones, and I think the reason is the wood used, as you can see in the photos:

Mids – the midrange:
– Slightly forward compared to the rest of the sound, and not annoying at all
– Natural sounds, the bass doesn’t bleed into it at all, it just gives it natural warmth
– Notes and voices have a slight lightness in weight that doesn’t change how natural they sound
– The detail is excellent and you won’t miss any sound, actually I think some details you never heard before will stand out.
– Personally I like the mids more balanced, or what most people call slightly recessed, and even so I loved them on these headphones.
– If you like forward vocals you’ll love these, but their prominence is very reasonable and not annoying
– The upper mid has no. aggression, everything in it sounds natural and there’s no sibilance

Treble – the high frequencies:
– Great balance.. and it’s my favorite part
– Moderate air, comfortable sparkle
– Completely free of harshness and annoying brightness
– Treble heads and treble lovers, these headphones are not for you at all
– The details are very, very clear and their prominence is easy on the ears even at high volume
– It won’t cause you any listening Fatigue at all

On to the technical performance:

– Soundstage
One of the biggest stages I’ve come across among closed-back headphones, it even beats some open-back headphones. Very wide, above average height, and the depth is exceptional. The cables you use will help the headphones show what they can do in the stage a lot, and I used the Tone Braid cable, the undisputed king of stage..

– Layering
The spacing between layers is scary good

– Separation
Forget about hearing any overlap between sounds in any way on these headphones

– Imaging
Very excellent in all directions but not quite exceptional, while for distance, near and far, I’ll say it with full confidence: exceptional.

– Resolution (I mean how close sounds are to natural)
Natural to me and I have no notes on it

– Clarity
This is ideal clarity, it didn’t affect or change how natural the sounds are..

– Micro-detail retrieval
Shocking.. on headphones with this kind of tuning there’s usually some weakness, even a little, but on these, rest assured you’ll hear every sound or note in the track no matter how small or quiet, and the best part is you don’t need to turn up the volume.. I listen at medium volume and the results were very impressive

– 3D presentation
Excellent, sounds move in every direction very smoothly, and if the stage height were better than it is, these would be the best closed-back headphones, period

Gaming with them:

A more fun experience than I expected, with a few notes:
Very wide stage especially in shooters, excellent detail, but footsteps aren’t as prominent as gamers prefer (they’re clear if the character is running, but walking is almost inaudible). Direction, distance and closeness of sounds is exceptional, all sounds are natural, and since the bass is on the low side it won’t cover up any detail.
So for shooters and competitive games these headphones are missing the thing gamers care about most: footsteps

As for story games: they pull you right into the game.. honestly I was looking for any weakness with this type of game and didn’t find one.. I give them exceptional performance

The strength of these headphones in games is imaging. I don’t remember any headphones of any kind giving me this much accuracy, period.

Final notes:

These headphones impressed me with performance that’s only missing a few small things, which we covered in the review.

Who these headphones suit:
Someone who likes a balanced sound leaning warm and free of harshness, and cares about technical and musical performance being balanced
People who play story games and finish campaigns, and most importantly are looking for closed-back headphones

Who they don’t suit (in my view):
People who like big bass, forward treble, lots of air, and people who play shooters and competitive games. They’re excellent with those, but footsteps while the character is walking were lower than expected
