Hifiman Sundara – open back
A while ago one of the guys sent me his Sundara for an upgrade ..
I know how this headphone performs and I know its weak points because I’ve tried it before
I thought about which cables to pick for it, I mean the metal
I settled on the king of metals in audio cables (in my opinion), OFHC
Oxygen-free high conductivity

The version I use comes from the factory tinned with tin – let’s say tin plated, and it’s the best based on my testing ..
I wanted to do something I very rarely do because it’s expensive ..
which is doubling the cables – meaning instead of using one for each connection point I use two + twist them (wrap them around each other) + increase the length = because the longer it is the bigger the effect (I chose a length of 15 cm) I see it as the ideal length
it doesn’t cause crowding, especially since the space is small and tight
I installed it and started the initial tests to make sure the drivers were working
Thank God it worked with no problems
I started putting the headphone back together – and I deliberately removed the Grill because I suspected it was the cause of the Sound Wall problem it suffers from = it’s what’s messing with the stage depth + the holographic effect + the layering
And I said let me try the Grill made for the HE400se
it’s a 3D print
and thank God it fit like it was designed for it
I started testing it and the change was very shocking
the headphone went from a neutral one you get bored of after a while to a fun, musical headphone
and the most shocking thing
was the improvement in the stage .. like it’s a different headphone 🤯
it got deep + the holographic effect improved + the layering + the bass + the airiness + the weight of the notes
Then I thought, now it’s time to change the pads .. I tried several types and settled on this one

and man, what a result I got
and now I can say after the upgrade it became a complete headphone in every sense of the word
and it’s very hard to beat even at twice its price
What improved after changing the pads:
the weight of the notes went up + the bass improved in quantity, density, depth and presence and became fun + any harshness in the sound disappeared + the depth improved even more + the headphone became more comfortable for long sessions and its clamp on the head eased off a lot
