Hey everyone,

After three months searching for the best IEM for my taste, I finally found it: the SHUOER EJ07. It’s a tribrid on each side: a 10 mm dynamic driver for the bass, two Sonion 2389 balanced armatures for the mids, and four Sonion EST drivers for the treble. 15 ohm and 107 dB sensitivity according to the company. The 4-core cable has a 2.5 balanced plug with 4.4 and 3.5 adapters. It was about $772 (about 2900 riyals) at the time of the review.

Who is it for?

  • Users who know exactly the sound they want: for enjoyment, monitoring and movies.

Strengths

  • One of the biggest soundstages I’ve heard in width, depth and height, and the imaging is exceptional.
  • The strongest separation I’ve heard, and layering, resolution and clarity are excellent.
  • The bass is ideal for me: forward sub-bass and flat mid-bass, with great control and without covering anything else.
  • The mids are as natural as it gets, and vocals are realistic with no aggression and no bass bleed.
  • The treble is airy with excellent detail, and no sibilance or harshness.
  • Really light, with excellent isolation with the right tips.

Weaknesses

  • It’s a bit big, and the nozzle design is odd and won’t suit small ear canals.
  • At low volume its performance is ordinary, and its strength shows as you turn it up.
  • It’s clearly affected by the source: a neutral source is best. With a tube amp the bass pulled back and slight harshness appeared.
  • It’s expensive, and reviews of it are rare.

Verdict

The best IEM I’d tried at the time of the review: like a home theater scaled down to an IEM. Compared with the Moondrop Variation, the EJ07 is about 10 to 15% better in imaging, clarity and detail, and the Variation is warmer with stronger bass. Don’t buy it just to try it: make sure its measurement suits your taste first.
